Artificial Intelligence Helps Supervise Railways: Discover How It Works
Last year, TTC MARCONI, in cooperation with Správa železnice, used artificial intelligence (AI) to increase railway safety during a pilot project at the Adamov railway station. The new security system analyses images taken from dozens of surveillance cameras in real time, helping to reveal potentially dangerous situations such as a person falling into the tracks, the appearance of suspicious persons or luggage that has been abandoned for a long period of time.
AI will not serve as a replacement of human security personnel but will act as a clever assistant. During the trial period, various crisis situations were simulated, tuning not only the technology itself but also related procedures and processes. The aim of the project was to verify the functionality of the system in real operation time and determine its possibilities for a much broader use across the entire railway network.
“In situations when human capacity is not enough, technology can help significantly. Artificial intelligence can identify a threat in time and react very quickly. The pilot project in Adamov gave us valuable feedback, helping us to further develop the system and prepare it for a larger deployment,” says Martin Bajer, Director of Business Development in TTC MARCONI.
